I get many people asking my why they should do a boudoir session. Before I began photographing them, I admit I wondered the same thing! However, after seeing a multitude of women walk out of my studio feeling awesome about themselves, I think everyone should do it. There doesn’t need to be a specific reason. Show off your pre-baby body, or mark the exciting time of life when you are getting ready to marry the love of their life. Or, even plan a shoot “just because.” There is no wrong time to celebrate being you.
It’s an intimidating thing to commit to, I know, but it’s so worth it. It’s not completely about the photos (although, they’re clearly a fantastic takeaway). It’s about feeling like you are beautiful, not despite, but because of, your imperfections. It’s about celebrating how good you look at the age you’re at. It’s about being daring and doing something off your bucket list.
What should I wear?
Ultimately, wear something you feel good in. Personally, I love a good mix of cozy, romantic, and sexy. If you’re doing a shoot as a present for a significant other, often incorporating a favorite clothing item or hobby is a great idea. We’ll photograph three looks, but I suggest bringing 4-6 outfits to give options. And don’t worry, this will be covered in more detail after booking… I’ll even send you a Pinterest inspiration board!
Do I need hair and makeup?
I highly recommend hair and makeup. Makeup and hair artists are magicians that are skilled at bringing out the most beautiful you. It makes a huge difference in photos. Besides, it’s fun to get dolled up for a day! I have several hair and makeup artists that I work with regularly, or you are welcome to bring in your own favorite MUA.
What location should we shoot at?
My Chicago studio is an option for all boudoir shoots, and is provided free of charge. It has a minimalistic, light and airy feel with gorgeous window light, wood floors, and loft detailing. If you are looking for something a little different, I can provide a list of photogenic boutique hotel locations upon request (client is responsible for room fees).
How long does it take to receive my photos?
Photo turnaround time depends on both the time of the year and what products are purchased. For shoot-only and print packages, proofs will be on the proofing gallery 2-3 weeks from shoot date. Little Black Book packages take the longest to account for design and printing time, and are ready at around 6-8 weeks, provided design approvals are completed in a timely manner.
Do you post my photos on your website?
I love showing off photos from sessions on my website! If you are comfortable with me sharing a few images, I am sensitive to privacy, and never tag you or use your last name. And, given the private nature of a boudoir shoot, I do allow clients to fully opt out of having their shoot displayed.
You’re awesome, how do I book?
To book, I need a completed contract, and a 50% booking retainer. Just contact me to set it up!
